Theodoric C. James

Died August 13, 2011


Theodoric JamesTheodoric C. James Jr. served as the presdiential archivist in the Office of Records Management at the White House beginning with  President John F. Kennedy  and through all the intervening years including President Barack Obama until his retirement in 2009 at the age of 69.   He was raised in Columbus, Mississippi and came to Washington DC as a young man to finish high school.  He attended Howard University and also tried medical school.  But, as is the case with many records managers, he took a job  doing filing and categorizing documents and spent the rest of his working career as an analyst and archivist in the Office of Records Management at the White House.  His family and friends used his nickname, Sonny.
